The study and photography of butterflies around our island is of particular interest to me. Since coming into the digital age of imaging I have spent a good deal of time referencing local resources to
learn when specific species take wing to document the lifecycles of these beautiful creatures.
One resource I reference often is www.skidaway.net, the website of Russ Wigh. Russ is a leading island birder and is an expert in photography, birding, butterflies and Odonates
(damselflies and dragonflies) for Chatham County. His website includes many images with accompanying flight dates for the varied species.
These species are presented in order referencing the volume, 'Butterflies Through Binoculars – The East’ (Oxford University Press, 1999 – ISBN 0195106687) by Jeffrey Glassberg.
